Surprise from Dear Hubby!

Although at times I don't think my dear hubby listens to what I am saying he can be one to pop up with a great surprise from time to time. He heard me mention about a friend's neat messenger bag she had altered herself and the fact that I would love to find one for myself. Last night he surprised me with one he had purchased last year at a garage sale and had been using it to store some of his maps. Can't live without him! Now to get mine embellished and ready to use at garage sales and junking trips! Any ideas?

Garden Totem - Seattle Space Needle

Here is another creative idea for unwanted glassware using a dinner plate as a base! This is a free standing garden totem that consists of 7 pieces of glass. The bird was a thrift store find and is perched on the dinner plate and then covered with a glass globe. Actually my hubby designed this piece and we refer to it as the Seattle Space Needle. I am hoping to move these in my booth along with some teacup bird feeders using bud vases, cups and saucers. Summer isn't over yet and these are so charming in your gardens and flower beds. This has really become an addictive project too!

Here is the second garden totem I have created this week. This totem consists of seven pieces of various glass patiently glued together. I just love the little blue glass squirrel on the top! These are becoming very addictive and a great way to get rid of unwanted glassware.

This is my first attempt at making a garden totem. It takes lots of patience with all the glue and such. I used junk pieces of glassware and a blue bird of happiness for the top portion. Another one is in progress and I will post it when complete.

Super Flash Cards

I hit the thrift store this morning and snagged this super find....large flash cards. The largest letters are 3 inches tall and these have never been torn apart. They are perforated so tearing them apart is super easy. I am going to sell the larger letter cards for 75 cents a sheet and the smaller ones will be 50 cents a sheet. If anyone is interested just email for additional pictures or information. Hopefully I will have them listed in my Etsy store by week's end. I just love thrifty bargains!

More booth downsize pictures

These are more pictures of my booth downsize. It is now a 10 x 11 and has more room to walk around inside now. I just love the enamel table that DH painted and made a few minor repairs. I have never seen one this size either - measures 48" long x 24" wide and has two drawers. Sure hope no one wants to buy it - I priced it high just to keep for display! I even used a picket fence behind it to hang aprons since I have no walls.

I finally downsized my booth this past week and I think it will be much easier to maintain now. This is the front of the booth....I believe in stacking shelves for display!

Okay this is for real....OMG garden is the name DH has given it. I couldn't believe it yesterday when he drove me by to take a glimpse of it. We both drove off laughing so hard too! I am not sure if anyone lives in the "garden house" (surely not!) but no one has been there in two days. I wouldn't even get out of the truck to snap the pictures for fear of some "critter" attacking me. The 2 pictures are of the "garden" spot itself...complete with dining booths from the recently remodeled Taco Bell in town. The gold angel adorns the top of some "deck" that goes no where. The house is really a mess as you can see. Notice the lovely "hot tub" and can you imagine someone in it....yikes! This is the house next door complete with the baby buzzard hovering over some dead "critter"....now you see why I wouldn't get out to take the pictures! There was a baby fox under the house but he wouldn't come out so we could only see his face. The last picture is "the end"....baby buzzard wandering off in the woods to who knows what! Hard to believe this is in the city limits too!

I have been MIA for a while but trying to get back in the swing of things. Our flowers are starting to put on such a pretty show of color now with spring weather. The day lily bed is loaded with buds and some of them have started blooming now. This was a bed we added to as we found day lilies we liked.

This is something DH and I drive by quite often and luckily I had my camera with me this week. DH discovered it one day and pointed it out to me....he calls it the 'devil in the fence'. I am not sure what it reminds me of but has such a mischevious look to it. We both chuckle now when we pass by it. It is amazing what you will see on your daily trips around town too!

Sorry I have been away for some time but so much has been going on around here. I have really tried to clear out lots of stuff and list in my Etsy store too so be sure and check it out. I sell under the name magark. I finally finished the rusty bird cage in a previous post and have it in the booth right now. I tried to keep the decor simple and not pour a lot of money into something that a buyer will change anyway. It has a cockatiel on the perch and bird nest in the bottom of the cage. Hopefully it will soon find a new home. Also I painted the rusty mailbox that was listed in a previous garage sale on the blog a lovely pistachio green. Folks around here will not even consider buying anything with rust on it. Things have to be pristine for them to even look at it! It is so hard to figure out what will sell in the booth anyway and I am really enjoying the sales in my Etsy store at the present time too. I think I will raid the booth of items that are just sitting around decorating and not going anywhere! Saturday was a great day for attending sales in our "neck of the world". I found a great garage/sale flea market setup in a park and managed to snag some great items. Also hit a local estate sale and again found wonderful items. I was about 2 hours late getting to it but lots of hidden goodies to be discovered there. My findings included vintage skeleton keys (6) ; other small unusual keys, glass flower frogs (one carnival) , vintage linens, uncut vocabulary card games (great for display), glass cloches, millinery flowers, and lots of other goodies. I was lucky enough to visit a couple of thrift stores over the weekend and find a few neat items. I love the books - especially the one on Paris - tucked inside the pages was a vintage map of Paris streets. The other books will be in my Etsy store soon. I woke up in a creative mood today and repurposed an object that was soon to hit the trash pile. I found a rusty fence pliers and horseshoe that had been welded together in its earlier days and made a cute nesting from it. It is now in my booth for sale and I hope it finds a new home. Great for spring decor!

Today was a beautiful sunny warm day for a change. I went to a garden show and hit a garage sale on the way back into town. We found a few neat things which can be repurposed into some wonderful stuff. I have worked on the grungy bird cage and some may think I have totally ruined it but I did prime it this afternoon. I have started painting it white and have one coat of paint on it but will try to finish it tomorrow after church. I need to put it in the booth to resell and the state it was in no one in this county would understand the neat rust feature it had in its former life....therefore the white paint and a little touch of fufu in it. Here is a picture of it with the primer and I will post a picture when all the paint is completed. Hope everyone had a great weekend and found lots of neat things.

This weekend's project is to try and clean this birdcage up and have it ready for the booth next week. I still haven't decided what to put in it and will play with thoughts as soon as it is painted. Today's Estate Sale

Today hubby and I attended an estate sale and made a few neat purchases. We found a wonderful enamel top table; minnow bucket; vintage Sonic Drive Inn tray; circular ornate metal piece that we will probably turn into a chalkboard, large metal scoop and other fun stuff. We love to create items from found objects just to be on the different side of decor. We both love to hunt treasures and often frequent flea markets and auctions.

Crazy Weather

Yesterday our temps were in the upper 70's and last night we had storms and a cold front pass through. This morning we woke up to 36 degrees and had to turn on our greenhouse. Our poor azaleas are so confused and just blooming away! Tonight we should dip into the lower 30's and have frost tomorrow morning. Nothing like living in the lower south!
